Phoenix Suns rookie Ty Jerome revealed Wednesday that he worked out with former college teammate, and the fourth overall pick by the Atlanta Hawks, De’Andre Hunter for workouts once the NBA season was suspended.

Jerome said that he traveled back to Virginia to meet up with Hunter two weeks after the season was suspended on March 11. The two former teammates met up with their trainer and competed in 1-on-1 drills six days a week.

We just competed pretty much every day. We had our trainer down there, played 1-on-1 six days a week — shot, lifted. We just got after it. Having a guy like that to compete against, it elevates your game to another level. Seeing a guy like that, he’s a big-time defender and a great offensive player, playing with him every day definitely helped my game.

Of course, Jerome and Hunter helped lead the Cavaliers to an 85-77 overtime victory over Texas Tech in the 2019 NCAA Championship Game as both were named to the All-Tournament Team. The two have remained close since leaving college and Jerome even named Hunter one of his top-three teammates.

Jerome and the Suns are among the 22 teams set to restart the season this month at the Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, Florida. The Suns enter the restart six games back of the Memphis Grizzlies in eighth place and will face a tough challenge making up the necessary ground in the standings to earn a playoff berth.

The Suns begin the restart July 31 vs. the Washington Wizards.
