Player Prowl: Panthers nab QB Kyler Murray off Cardinals

In a scenario straight out of a video game, we’d have the Panthers snatching QB Kyler Murray away from the Cardinals in Week 4’s “Player Prowl.”

So we’ll just cut right to the chase here with this week’s edition of “Player Prowl,” okay?

If the Carolina Panthers could (hypothetically) take one player off the roster of their Week 4 opponent (the Arizona Cardinals), it would undoubtedly be quarterback Kyler Murray. Because of course it would.

The 2019 No. 1 overall pick pretty much has it all, even if those big things come in a small package. Murray has a rocket launcher of an arm, a pair of explosive feet and rare athleticism that also made him the ninth overall pick of the 2018 MLB draft.

Panthers head coach Matt Rhule, who saw way too much of Murray in a single outing back in college, put it best earlier this week:

“I think he’s one of the rare, rare, rare athletic players I’ve ever seen in my life,” he said with a smile on Wednesday. “I saw him do things on the college football field that made me wanna just walk off the field. We sacked him, we knocked the ball out of his hands, it bounced on the ground three times, he picked it up and threw it for an 18-yard first down. He’s one of the most amazing players I’ve ever seen in my life.”

He’d continue to wax poetic:

“What I love about him is he runs the whole system, he’s out there checkin’ plays, he’s gettin’ ’em in the right looks, he’s checkin’ the runs,” Rhule then add. “I mean, he’s not just, ‘Hey, this guy’s talented.’ He’s skilled. There’s a big difference. Lots of guys are talented. He is skilled.”

Well, you can’t blame him for thinking that.

Over 49 career games, Murray has thrown for 12,264 passing yards, 73 touchdowns and 35 interceptions while completing 66.6 percent of his attempts. He’s also run for another 1,851 yards and 21 scores.

We know we got this pick right, but we’ll ask you anyway . . .
