PHILADELPHIA–The Philadelphia 76ers returned home on Friday to play host to the Atlanta Hawks and continue to grow and build as they move forward with the season. The Hawks entered the night missing their star leader, Trae Young, and it appeared initially that Philadelphia would run away with this one, but Atlanta wouldn’t allow it.
After the Sixers built a 14-point lead in the first half, the Hawks used a big second quarter to build up a 9-point lead and give themselves some confidence. Atlanta outscored Philadelphia 45-27 in the second and knocked down seven triples. The Sixers were able to rally behind Joel Embiid and walk away with a 125-114 victory over the feisty Hawks.
Embiid finished with 38 points and 14 rebounds on the night. Tyrese Maxey added 30 points and seven assists, Tobias Harris added 13 points and eight rebounds, Nic Batum added eight points, and De’Anthony Melton had 15, six rebounds, and five assists. Kelly Oubre Jr. added 11 off the bench.
