New Charlotte Hornets teammates P.J. Washington and LaMelo Ball have a bit of familiarity with each other as the two previously went head to head in a high school game and they seemingly remember that matchup quite well, actually.

Washington, a five-star recruit in his senior season, and Findlay Prep took on 16-year-old Ball and Chino Hills during an exhibition game prior to the 2016-17 season. Unfortunately, stats from the contest were not taken since it was a preseason game but Findlay prep walked away with the win.

Ball said during his introductory press conference that he has a prior history with Washington dating back to that game and, on Wednesday, Washington vividly recalled beating Ball and Chino Hills.

We definitely won that game when we played Chino Hills. They were just getting rebounds and throwing it down the court really fast. They played a fast game. LaMelo was a lot smaller, he was hitting shots but at the end of the day, we won the game. It was definitely fun playing against him and it’s definitely fun to have him here now. I’m excited to see what he can do for us. I’m excited to help guide him through his rookie year.

Washington welcomed Ball to Charlotte on draft night with open arms so there are certainly no hard feelings there after all of these years. The two players represent a big piece of the Hornets’ rebuilding plan and figure to play an integral role this season.
