With the NBA on hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, players have been tasked with staying active by any means necessary with little access to workout equipment.

Some teams have sent players various exercise gear that can be used indoors while others are getting creative with everyday items found around the house. In order to work on their cardio, most players can use their streets or outside areas to get a run in, something Charlotte Hornets rookie P.J. Washington has been taking advantage of.

“They shut down the gym at my little place, so the biggest thing to do is really just try to go outside and try to get some cardio in,” Washington told Roderick Boone of The Athletic recently. “Just running around wherever. That’s the biggest thing I’ve been trying to keep my mind on doing.”

NBA commissioner Adam Silver said in an interview on Monday night that the league will not make a decision on the future of the season earlier than May and that all options will be considered for resuming play, including playing in empty arenas.

The coronavirus outbreak has created an unprecedented situation for everyone around the world. While many are confused about how to navigate through these uncertain times, the downtime has perhaps allowed for additional family time.

“I would never have imagined anything like this,” Washington said. “It definitely sucks. I wish that we were still playing. But I think that everybody is benefiting from staying inside and just trying to spend time with their family. I think it’s good for everybody to stay inside and spend time with their family.”
