P.J. Tucker reacts to his selection for Texas Athletics Hall of Honor

Following the Texas announcement, Tucker called it “an honor to be in the Hall of Fame of the greatest school in America.”

Houston Rockets forward and respected NBA veteran P.J. Tucker took to Instagram on Thursday to celebrate his induction into the Texas Athletics Hall of Honor at his alma mater, the University of Texas.

Tucker played three seasons with the Longhorns from 2003 until 2006. Texas won at least 20 games and made the NCAA Tournament in each of those years, including a 25-win group that went to the Sweet Sixteen in 2004 and a 30-win squad that went to the Elite Eight in 2006.

Here’s a sampling of his college bio in the official announcement:

A second-team All-America selection and the Big 12 Conference Player of the Year in 2005-06, P.J. Tucker proved to be the definition of toughness and efficient production during his three seasons with the Longhorns (2003-06).

A two-year starter who saw time at the wing and the power forward positions despite being undersized at 6-foot-5, he played in 87 career games and made 69 starts. Following his three-year career, Tucker ranked 18th in UT history in career scoring (1,169 points), eighth in career rebounds (714) and tied for fifth in career double-doubles (28).

Plans for a formal induction ceremony have not yet been set.

Now 35 years old, Tucker returned to the state of Texas when he signed with the Rockets prior to the 2017-18 season. He joyfully reacted to the Hall of Honor news in an Instagram post on Thursday, calling it “an honor to be in the Hall of Fame of the greatest school in America.”
