The Atlanta Falcons welcome the Pittsburgh Steelers to Mercedes-Benz Stadium Sunday for the season-opening game for both teams. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET (FOX). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Steelers vs. Falcons odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Steelers went 10-7 last season, losing to the Buffalo Bills 31-17 in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. Pittsburgh added Denver Broncos QB Russell Wilson and Chicago Bears QB Justin Fields to revamp its offense. It should have a tremendous defense again, holding 9 regular-season opponents to under 20 points a season ago. The Steelers lost all 3 preseason games leading up to this one.

The Falcons also have a signal-calling change as they added QB Kirk Cousins, who was with the Minnesota Vikings last season. Atlanta is the favorite to win the NFC South with their consistent passer under center. The Falcons also lost all 3 meaningless preseason games coming into this one. Atlanta was 5-12 against the spread (ATS) last season.

Steelers at Falcons picks and predictions

Prediction

Falcons 20, Steelers 17

Moneyline

PASS.

There’s no great value here. The Falcons will be at home and have a better offense than Pittsburgh, so they should come out on top but aren’t worth a play. Similarly, the Steelers are far better played on the spread.

Against the spread

BET STEELERS +3.5 (-108).

The Pittsburgh Steelers haven’t had a losing season since 2003. Under head coach Mike Tomlin, the Steelers have been among the most consistent teams in the NFL, and with a veteran quarterback, they should be able to have much-better game management.

Pittsburgh has a stout defense, and it should be able to keep this game close. It lost by 3 twice a season ago and was 6-5 ATS as an underdog. The Falcons have Cousins under center, but in his first game in a new offense, there could be some rust. They struggled to cover last season and failed to cover in their last 4 home games.

Back STEELERS +3.5 (-108).

Over/Under

BET UNDER 41.5 (-105).

Both teams have a new starting quarterback, and both also have an elite secondary. The Falcons have a tremendous safety duo and have key cornerbacks as well to limit what Wilson can do, and the Steelers have a few of the best pass-rushing defenders.

The Falcons went Under in 6 of their last 7 regular season games, and the Steelers went Under in 7 of their last 8. Expect a similar style of play. Take UNDER 41.5 (-105).
