Pittsburgh Pirates World Series, win total, pennant and division odds

Looking at the 2022 MLB futures for the Pittsburgh Pirates, including odds for the World Series, pennant, division and projected win total.

Expectations are low for the Pittsburgh Pirates for 2022 after winning just 61 games a year ago.

The Pirates were the worst team in the NL Central, even finishing 10 games back of the 4th-place Chicago Cubs. Pittsburgh didn’t improve much this offseason and will likely be in a similar boat this year.

Below, we look at the Pittsburgh Pirates’ MLB futures odds, including their projected 2022 win total and World Series odds at Tipico Sportsbook.

Pittsburgh Pirates’ 2022 World Series odds

Odds: +30000 (bet $100 to win $30,000)

Pittsburgh has the MLB’s longest odds to win it all. The Los Angeles Dodgers (+480) are the favorites, followed by the Houston Astros (+900).

Pittsburgh (+30000) is tied with the Baltimore Orioles for the longest odds. At +3000, the Pirates have an implied probability of winning the World Series of 0.33% or 300/1 fractional odds.

Backing the Pirates (+30000) to win the World Series for a 300-to-1 payoff is not even worth a small wager.

Pittsburgh Pirates’ 2022 playoff odds

Will Pirates make the playoffs: Yes +1500 | No -10000

Let’s not kid ourselves here. The Pirates had the league’s 3rd-worst ERA last year and will be returning 2 of their 4-pitcher rotation along with getting RP Chase De Jong more innings.

The 28-year-old was 1-4 with a 5.77 ERA in 9 starts last season. So, I’m not sure he’ll help the Bucs too much.

The Pirates lost 1B Colin Moran, whose 10 home runs sadly ranked 3rd on the team in 2021. CF Bryan Reynolds will be back once again, but he can only do so much – he led the club in homers (24), RBIs (90), hits (169) and runs (93) last season.

Nonetheless, expect this team to struggle in 2022.

Pittsburgh Pirates’ 2022 win total

Over/Under: 64.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

The Pirates were ranked the 4th-best farm system by MLB.com’s Jake Crouse in a column last August.

Prospects like C Henry Davis and RHP Quinn Priester might be able to take that next step. While the playoffs are still a pipe dream, improving just a bit on last year’s 61-101 season is possible.

The Pirates ranked last in the majors in runs scored per game and home runs last year. The front office hopes new hitting coach Andy Haines, formerly with the Brewers, can help mend those woes. Milwaukee had the 11th-most RBIs and 18th-most home runs last season. Haines should help bring some form of that success to Pittsburgh.

The Pirates are in a division in which 3 of the 5 teams likely won’t be competitive, potentially opening the way for every team to look toward their farm teams for strength.

Nonetheless, they could snag some easy wins as the season winds down and show some minor improvement from a year ago.

I’m willing to bet OVER 64.5 (-115).

Odds to win NL Central Division

  • Milwaukee Brewers -180 (bet $180 to win $100)
  • St. Louis Cardinals +220 (bet $100 to win $220)
  • Chicago Cubs +1200 (bet $100 to win $1,200)
  • Cincinnati Reds +1300 (bet $100 to win $1,300)
  • Pittsburgh Pirates +6000 (bet $100 to win $6,000)

Pittsburgh’s implied probability of winning the NL Central is 1.64% or 60/1 fractional odds. The Brewers and Cardinals are the only threats here, and there’s no fun in betting the heavy underdog in a season several months long.

PASS.

Odds to win National League

Odds: +10000 (bet $100 to win $10,000)

The Pirates just don’t have a team capable of winning the NL, let alone the NL Central.

The implied probability of this happen is 0.99% and the fractional odds are 100/1, so there isn’t much chance it happens.

With not-so-great pitching and lack of firepower at the plate, betting Pittsburgh to win the NL pennant is a PASS.
