Pittsburgh Pirates World Series, win total, pennant and division odds

Looking at the 2021 MLB futures for the Pittsburgh Pirates, including odds for the World Series, pennant, division and their projected win total.

The Pittsburgh Pirates had another rough year in 2020 as their 19 wins during the abbreviated season was lowest in all of baseball. Below, we look at the Pittsburgh Pirates’ MLB futures odds, including their projected 2021 win total and World Series odds at BetMGM.

The Pirates are in full rebuild mode, and spent the offseason trading away some of their best players in exchange for prospects. Gone are starting pitchers Joe Musgrove and Jameson Taillon, as well as first baseman Josh Bell. None of the prospects the Pirates received in return are likely to make an immediate impact at the big league level.

Meanwhile, the front office didn’t to much to fill the voids. In fact, the biggest signings the team made were minor league deals with 3B Todd Frazier and OF Brian Goodwin, and a one-year deal with SP Tyler Anderson.

Odds: -20000 (Bet $100 to win $20,000)

At 200-to-1, the Pirates own the longest odds on the board. A $100 bet on them winning the World Series would result in a hefty payout of $20,000. Unfortunately, a team that was already at the bottom has taken another step back over the winter. They are an easy PASS with virtually no chance of winning the title and a good shot of recording the league’s worst record for the second straight year.

Pittsburgh Pirates’ 2021 win total

Over/Under: 58.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

The 19 games the Pirates won in 2020 would prorate to 51 victories over the course of a full 162-game season. It’s doubtful they will be quite that bad in 2021, but they are clearly among the least talented teams in the league, especially after their recent moves. It’s also quite possible that any player that gets off to a hot start finds themself in another uniform soon thereafter. This looks like a pretty fair line, but we’ll give a slight lean to the UNDER 58.5 (-110).

Odds to win the National League Central

  • Cardinals +105 (bet $100 to win $105)
  • Reds +333 (bet $100 to win $333)
  • Brewers +375 (bet $100 to win $375)
  • Cubs +500 (bet $100 to win $500)
  • Pirates +6600 (bet $100 to win $6600)

Most teams within the division have been pretty quiet this offseason with the Cardinals’ acquisition of 3B Nolan Arenado deal being the only blockbuster move. There aren’t any dominant teams, but the Pirates are heavy favorites to end up at the bottom of the standings. PASS on the PIRATES +6600

Odds to win the National League

Not surprisingly, the Pirates have the highest odds to win the NL pennant at +10000, so a $100 bet would return $10,000 if they somehow pulled it off. With the organization more focused on saving money and adding prospects than contending now, these odds aren’t enough to invest in. PASS on the Pirates and find another long shot to take a chance on.
