Pitcher Noah Davis’ hat went flying after being grazed with a hard-hit ball in his first career start

Baseball is truly a game of inches.

When they say baseball is a game of inches, surely they couldn’t have meant something like this!

On Sunday, Colorado Rockies pitcher Noah Davis had a scary encounter with a hard-hit ball in his first-ever start with the team. In the bottom of the second, facing the heart of the Seattle Mariners’ order, Davis had to duck out of the way of a screaming ball driven right at his face. While Davis was able to avoid being clobbered in the face, the ball grazed the back of his cap on the way past his head, knocking it off with surprising ease.

The result? A scary-looking scene as Davis just barely gets his head down, with his hat taking all of the damage as the ball flies away.

Look, there’s a reason why I never wanted to pitch when I played softball as a kid and this right here is Exhibit A. Terrifying stuff!

Here’s how MLB fans reacted to Davis’ hat going flying after a near-miss with a hard-hit baseball.
