The Boston College Eagles (7-5) and Nebraska Cornhuskers (6-6) meet Saturday in the Pinstripe Bowl. Kickoff from Yankee Stadium in the Bronx is scheduled for noon ET (ABC). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college football odds around the Boston College vs. Nebraska odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Boston College wrapped up its season on a high note with a 2-game win streak. The Eagles closed things out by beating the Pitt Panthers 34-23 Nov. 30, covering as 3.5-point home favorites with the Over (50.5) hitting. They managed to cover the spread in their final 5 games.

Boston College kicked off its season with a bang, pulling off a 28-13 upset as a 16.5-point underdog vs. the then-No. 10 Florida State Seminoles in Tallahassee Sept. 2. BC finished tied for 8th in the ACC with a 4-4 record.

The Eagles offense leans heavily on the run, averaging 176.3 yards per game on the ground (46th in the country, per ESPN) and 4.2 yards per carry. Controlling the tempo has been key to the Eagles’ success.

Last season, Boston College beat SMU 23-14 in the Fenway Bowl where BC was a 13.5-point underdog and the Under (49.5) cashed. It snapped a 2-bowl losing streak and was Boston College’s first bowl win since December 2016.

Nebraska started this season strong, winning 5 of its first 6 games but stumbled down the stretch, losing 5 of its final 6. The Cornhuskers’ regular season ended with a tough 13-10 loss at the Iowa Hawkeyes. The 3-point spread pushed, and the Under (42) hit.

The Cornhuskers tied for 12th in the Big Ten with a 3-6 record, relying heavily on a standout defense. They allowed just 19.8 points per game, ranking 17th in the nation, and their defensive front was stellar, holding opponents to only 105.8 rushing yards per game, 11th best in the country.

This marks Nebraska’s first bowl appearance since the 2016 Music City Bowl, where they lost to the Tennessee Volunteers 38-24 — the Cornhuskers were 9.5-point underdogs and the Over (59) cashed. Their last bowl win was the season before, a 37-29 victory vs. UCLA in the Foster Farms Bowl in San Francisco.

Surprisingly, these two football programs have never faced each other on the gridiron.

Boston College vs. Nebraska picks and predictions

Prediction

Boston College 20, Nebraska 17

Moneyline

Momentum matters, especially in bowl games, and Boston College has it. The Eagles have been the stronger team over the second half the season, winning 3 of their last 4 games after switching to Grayson James at QB. The first of those 3 victories was a 37-31 defeat as 3-point favorites of then-unranked, now-No. 25 Syracuse Nov. 9. As mentioned, BC closed the regular season 5-0 ATS.

Playing at Yankee Stadium is a big plus for Boston College compared to Nebraska (-185) making the longer trip. Nebraska’s defense, usually a strong point, will be shorthanded with several players transferring and defensive coordinator Tony White hired away for the same position at Florida State.

The weather is shaping up perfectly for Boston College’s style of play. Cold, windy and rainy conditions favor its run-heavy approach. Nebraska, which leans more on the passing game, could struggle in these conditions.

BET BOSTON COLLEGE (+150) to grind out a win in the Big Apple.

Against the spread

If you want to take the 4 points with the Eagles (-115), that’s understandable. I’ll take the plus odds on the moneyline.

Just don’t bet more than 1½ Units between the moneyline and the spread.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 46.5 (-110).

This game has “Under” written all over it.

Neither team has played in almost a month, so it’s likely there will be some rust to knock off. Nebraska has gone Under in 8 of their 12 games this season/ While Boston College hit the Over in its last 6 contests, Saturday’s weather won’t help scoring.

Expect rain, temps in the upper 30s to low 40s and moderate winds — perfect for slowing things down. Boston College loves to run the ball, and Nebraska’s defense is built to stop it.

With both teams likely grinding it out and the weather adding extra challenges, don’t expect a ton of points. UNDER 46.5 (-110) is the play.
