Picking so late in each round presents challenges for predicting what the Green Bay Packers will do during the early rounds of the 2020 NFL draft. The team has obvious needs, and the draft aligns well with many of those needs, but GM Brian Gutekunst will have thousands of possible ways to address those needs.
Here are two potential options, using the simulator at The Draft Network. The first presents a scenario that would add significant resources to the offense, while the second is more balanced.
Which is your favorite? Read through both scenarios and pick your favorite mock in the poll below.
Mock Draft No. 1
1.30: OT Josh Jones, Houston
2.62: WR Michael Pittman, USC
3.94: DB K’Von Wallace, Clemson
4.136: WR Devin Duvernay, Texas
Notes: Jones falling to the end of the first round could help solve the Packers’ major long-term need at offensive tackle. He’s a solid pass protector who could be ready to play early as a rookie…Pittman looks like a terrific value at the end of the second round. He looks like a more polished version of Kenny Golladay and could provide the Packers with a ton of production all over the field…Wallace played many roles for Clemson and could transition easily into a slot/hybrid role for Mike Pettine. He is a fearless player with experience defending the run and covering in intermediate areas…A receiver at No. 136 means no inside linebacker or defensive lineman in the first four rounds, but Duvernay is worth it. He’s a natural slot who would fill the Packers’ need for an explosive playmaker.
Mock Draft No. 2
1.30: WR Brandon Aiyuk, Arizona State
2.62: DL Raekwon Davis, Alabama
3.94: LB Akeem Davis-Gaither, Appalachian State
4.136: OT Jack Driscoll, Auburn
Notes: Aiyuk has room to grow but he’s exactly the kind of receiver the Packers need. He wins vertically and is awesome after the catch and in space…Davis is boom-bust but he’s a huge man with length, power and some pass-rush potential. Could be the ideal five-tech next to Kenny Clark…Davis-Gaither is on the smaller side but he’d inject a big dose of athleticism and range to the linebacker position. Getting him deep in the third round could be a steal…Driscoll lacks length but is experienced (45 straight starts) and proven as a pass protector. Could have tackle/guard flexibility.
