North Carolina went into South Bend, Indiana, and came away with a conference win in the ACC against Notre Dame, 74-73, on a late-game, four-point play by Elliot Cadeau after the team was down three with less than five seconds remaining.
The Tar Heels looked fundamentally sound in the first half, leading by double-digits in that 20 minutes. However, they only brought a seven-point lead in the break. After halftime, Micah Shrewsberry willed his team to a comeback on the back of Markus Burton.
However, Ian Jackson’s career-high night of 27 points on 11-of-18 shooting and Elliot Cadeau’s 2-for-3 from three boosted the team to spoil Notre Dame’s attempt at a home conference win.
Cadeau hit a three with four seconds left and buried it while being fouled by Matt Allocco, which sent him to the free-throw line. After sinking the free throw, UNC held the 74-73 and kept it after a missed layup from Burton.
