Florida basketball finally cracked the .500 mark in Southeastern Conference play on Saturday afternoon, seizing a 102-98 victory from Mike White and the visiting Georgia Bulldogs in overtime inside the O’Connell Center. The win puts the Gators at 14-6 overall and 4-3 in SEC play.
The Gators were led by a career-high 23 points from center Micah Handlogten, who also grabbed an eye-popping 17 boards for a double-double while also snagging a steal in 35 minutes played. The Gators needed everything he had on a day that the team allowed a 21-point lead halfway through the second frame to evaporate before the final horn.
The ‘Dawgs were paced by RJ Melendez, who dropped a game-high 35 points while recording five steals, three rebounds and an assist along the way. He was one of four UGA players with double-digit points.
