Florida baseball bounced back from an extra-inning loss on Saturday night with a blowout win over its Southeastern Conference comrades, the LSU Tigers, in the 2023 College World Series on Sunday at Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska. It ran up a 24-4 final to force a third game on Monday for all the marbles.
Hurston Waldrep started for Florida and looked rough early on much like Brandon Sproat the night before. Eventually he righted his ship before the game got out of hand. After just 2 1/3 innings of work allowing three runs, the bullpen took over and shut the Tigers down the rest of the way. The tandem of Blake Purnell and Nick Ficarrotta burned the remaining frames en route to victory.
The Orange and Blue obviously exploded on offense, led by two-homer days from Ty Evans and Jac Caglianone, as well as dingers from BT Riopelle and Wyatt Langford. The latter had a monster day, adding two doubles and a walk on top of six runs batted in. He looked every bit the part of a potential top-five pick in the 2023 MLB draft.
