Having wide receiver Devontez Walker in Chapel Hill, even if it was just for one season, proved to be one of UNC’s luckiest gets in the transfer portal.
After dealing with the NCAA’s foolish rules on two-time transfers, Walker was finally ruled eligible before Carolina’s Week 6 clash against Syracuse. He enjoyed a respectable outing against the Orange, catching six passes for 43 yards, then showed the Tar Heels why he was such a special player against Miami.
Walker set a season-high with 11 catches the following week against UVA, plus he added his second-straight, 100-yard receiving performance. He caught just five passes between the Georgia Tech and Campbell games, then had a major impact in the victory over Duke, hauling in seven passes for a season-high 162 yards.
He only played in eight games with the Tar Heels, but Walker led them with 699 receiving yards and seven receiving touchdowns. He’d have a chance to add onto that total, but declared for the 2024 NFL Draft and opted out of the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.
Let’s take a look at 20 photos from Walker’s brief UNC career, which includes lots of highlight-reel catches and flashy smiles.
