Photo surfaces showing Cowboys QB Dak Prescott in walking boot

From @ToddBrock24f7: The photo, posted to X, comes shortly after rumors circulated of a mystery injury and possible MRI for the QB, just 3 weeks before camp.

With training camp just three weeks away, there’s new reason for Cowboys fans to be concerned about Dak Prescott’s status.

But it’s suddenly not his wallet that bears watching; it’s about three feet south of that.

The quarterback at the center of a massive controversy surrounding a contract extension that may or may not be coming has also been the subject of recent rumors about a “mystery” injury… and now the soon-to-be 31-year-old has been spotted with a walking boot on his right foot.

Professional sports bettor Steve Fezzik claimed this week on an episode of The Ross Tucker Podcast that word in come circles is that Prescott “is not 100 percent.” There’s supposedly been an MRI done, too, though that’s not been confirmed. According to Fezzik, it’s all concerning enough- within the betting world, anyway- to have affected the official over/under of how many games the Cowboys are projected to win this season.

Now, a professional gambler repeating rumors on a podcast in the heat of the NFL’s slow-news season is one thing.

But photographs can put a different spin on things.

“Dak Prescott was in Los Cabos this weekend,” a translation of the post’s caption reads. “In the pool he walked normally but this photo … shows that he has an injury to his right ankle!”

Prescott, of course, suffered a gruesome dislocation and compound fracture of that same ankle during a Week 5 game against the Giants in the 2020 season; the injury caused him to miss the next 11 months.

He then strained his right calf in Week 6 of the 2021 season leading the team to an overtime win versus New England. He did his postgame press conference wearing a boot (like the one pictured this week) and ended up missing one game as a result.

It’s not known what may have happened to Prescott- or when- that caused him to strap on the protective boot once again. He recently did some throwing in Nashville to Jake Ferguson and a group of tight ends from across the league at Tight End University, the multi-day camp put on by George Kittle, Travis Kelce, and Greg Olsen.

According to one report, a team insider is blowing off the whispers of a new injury, saying, “Don’t waste your time.”

But until more footage surfaces- of Prescott without the extra hardware, preferably throwing a football at live-action speed to his Cowboys teammates in Oxnard- there will undoubtedly be at least some cause for concern within Cowboys Nation.
