The Phoenix Suns (1-0) and Los Angeles Lakers (0-1) meet Thursday at Crypto.com Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET (TNT). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Suns vs. Lakers odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting of 2023; split last season’s series 2-2

The Suns head to Los Angeles in a bad way. The good news is that Phoenix opened at Golden State with a 108-104 win as a 3-point underdog as the Under (235.5) cashed Tuesday, but it cost them dearly. G Devin Booker went for 32 points, but he is listed as doubtful for Thursday’s game due to a sore foot. G Bradley Beal (back), who missed the opener, is also doubtful.

The Lakers were on the short end of a 119-107 loss against the Nuggets in Denver as 5-point underdogs as the Under (229.5) connected Tuesday. F Jarred Vanderbilt (heel) will miss Thursday’s game.

Suns at Lakers picks and predictions

Prediction

Lakers 114, Suns 104

Moneyline

The Lakers (-225) will cost you more than 2 times your potential return, and that’s pretty expensive, even if the Suns (+180) are playing shorthanded without its 2 starting backcourt All-Stars.

PASS, and look to the spread instead.

Against the spread

The LAKERS -5.5 (-110) are the play at home. The stars will be out, the Lakers made it out of the Denver game in relatively healthy shape, and they’ll be able to bounce back and level their record against the banged up Suns.

Yes, the Suns +5.5 (-110) still have F Kevin Durant, C Jusuf Nurkic, F Josh Okogie, etc., but Booker accounted for 32 points in the opening game, and he was the most dynamic player on the court. Without him, Phoenix is going to be in a bad way.

Over/Under

UNDER 223.5 (-110) is the lean, especially with Booker missing for the Suns. He accounted for nearly 30% of the team’s offensive production. With the entire backcourt out, and either G Jordan Goodwin or F Eric Gordon sliding into the starting lineup, that’s not good for the offense. Gordon was 4-for-16 shooting off the bench in his team debut Tuesday.
