For whatever reason, baseball players are prone to ridiculous injuries. We’ve seen players hurt themselves sneezing, scorch themselves on tanning beds, tear ligaments just taking off their shoes, and destroy their hands with flying drones. Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Zack Wheeler, though, may have just set a new bar for the most ridiculous baseball injury of all time.
While the Phillies are in the middle of a playoff push, Wheeler was set to start against the Marlins on Saturday – but Joe Girardi was forced to push Wheeler’s start back after the pitcher damaged the nail on his middle finger while putting on his pants. As a result, the Phillies opted to cycle through their bullpen for the second game of a double-header on Friday, and ended up losing 5-3.
Zack Wheeler has a problem with the nail on his middle finger. He caught his nail putting on pants. "Can't make this up," Joe Girardi said. He won't pitch until Monday at earliest.

Phillies rookie Spencer Howard will start Saturday in Wheeler’s place.
