Phillies at Yankees: Projected starting pitchers
RHP Zack Wheeler vs. LHP Jordan Montgomery
Wheeler was tremendous in his initial outing of the season, allowing just one earned run, five hits and two walks with four strikeouts over seven innings in a win over the Miami Marlins July 25.
- Wheeler posted the quality start against the Marlins, throwing 57 of his 87 pitches for strikes. He’ll face a much bigger test against the high-octane Yankees offense.
- Wheeler was 0-1 with a 5.73 ERA and .313 opponent batting average across 11 innings over two starts against the Yankees last season as a member of the Mets.

The southpaw Montgomery will work for the Yankees, and they are the home team despite this game taking place in Philadelphia. It’s because Tuesday’s game was wiped out by Tropical Storm Isaias, and with a two-game interleague set scheduled for Wednesday in Philadelphia anyway, it just made sense.
- Montgomery was impressive in a win over the Boston Red Sox, allowing one run, five hits and a walk with four strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings in an 81-pitch performance.
- Montgomery threw 52 of his 81 pitches for strikes against the Red Sox, hitting one batter and getting first-pitch strikes to 15 of the 22 batters he faced.

Prediction
Yankees 7, Phillies 3
Moneyline (ML)
The YANKEES (-125) have been nearly automatic, winning eight of their nine games overall. They have had timely pitching, outstanding power hitting and they certainly look the part of championship contender. The Phillies (+115), well, we just don’t have a large sample size. They have been limited to four total games due to COVID-19, weather, etc. It’s been an odyssey. Philly will have rust, while New York is a well-oiled machine and will continue to roll on.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)
The YANKEES (-1, +120) have won eight of their nine games straight up. All but one of those victories have been by two or more runs. Look for the Yankees to continue rolling along, so feel confident betting them on the run line.
Over/Under (O/U)
OVER 8 (-110) is the way to go on Yankees’ games, regardless of the opposing pitcher. New York’s offense ranks third in runs per game at 5.67, while ranking No. 1 in OPS (.825) and home runs (20). They’re also just so-so in the pitching department, posting a 3.67 ERA which is 10th in the majors. Their defense has been poor, too, committing six errors to rank 17th in the majors. It’s a tremendous recipe for over results.
