Philadelphia Eagles get poor grade for selection of Oklahoma’s Jalen Hurts

Philadelphia selected Oklahoma QB Jalen Hurts 53rd overall in the draft, and received a D- from Mike Tanier to go along with it.

Many Eagles fans felt their wings had been clipped on day 2 of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Philadelphia selected Oklahoma QB Jalen Hurts 53rd overall in the draft, and received a D- from Mike Tanier of Bleacher Report to go along with it.

The Eagles already have an established quarterback in Carson Wentz. While he may be injury prone, he has shown real promise and is a proven starter when healthy.

Despite the fact that Hurts may have the most complicated evaluation of any player in the draft, many agreed the Eagles just weren’t the fit.

The reason Philadelphia took a chance on him as high as No. 53 is the recent success of Ravens’ QB Lamar Jackson and Saints’ Taysom Hill, who can play a wide variety of positions with his athleticism. Despite all this, there’s still a chance Hurts will be exactly what he’s showed for years now: a mobile quarterback with accuracy issues.

Hurts may have a high ceiling as a mobile quarterback or a flex athlete, but the biggest reason for a D- grade lies within the Eagles. Whatever role he takes on for them will surely not be as helpful as a receiver or edge-rusher would have been.
