“Dear Tiger.”
That’s how Phil Mickelson started a tweet last night around dinner time.
“Thank you for all that you’ve done for this great game of golf.”
A classy gesture, seemingly totally unprompted. For reasons none other than just because. As you can imagine, it was heartily received by golf fans, with more than 100,000 likes and 1,500 comments within 12 hours.
When asked what sparked the tweet, Mickelson replied “random appreciation.”
Neither Tiger nor Phil are playing this week at the Tour Championship. Mickelson will play next week at the Safeway Open in Napa, California, but Woods is unlikely to play.
The following week is the U.S. Open at Winged Foot. Here’s hoping the USGA puts Tiger and Phil in the same group the first two days.
Dear Tiger,
Thank you for all that you’ve done for this great game of golf. No one has benefited more than me and I just wanted you to know I appreciate you and all you’ve done. That’s all. Thank you.— Phil Mickelson (@PhilMickelson) September 2, 2020
