We are just a day away from one of Clemson’s biggest games of the season, if not their biggest.
Last season, the Tigers fell to the Gamecocks in disheartening fashion. The 31-30 loss ended a seven-game win streak for the program over South Carolina, and it also ended their 40-game home win streak. What could have been another excellent win over Clemson’s bitter rivals turned into a nightmare.
This season, the Tigers are looking for revenge, and running back Phil Mafah has a key to Clemson being able to do so. If the Tigers can take care of the ball, they can win this game.
“As you all have seen throughout the season, ball security is everything in this game, and just minor details really play a huge part in a football game, and you know things like that just happen, said Mafah. You never want to fumble, but sometimes it just doesn’t go your way, but our part is just to keep practicing and being able to keep repping holding onto the ball.”
The biggest issue in any loss for the Tigers this season has been ball security, especially early in the season. Over the past few weeks, it’s felt like we’ve seen a different Clemson team. This three-game win streak has seen the Tigers clean their play up, and it’s shown.
If Clemson can win the turnover battle again on Saturday or even just continues to limit the turnovers that cost them early in the season, they should have no problems taking down their rivals.
