With starting running back Will Shipley injured and not playing against Notre Dame, running back Phil Mafah had not only big shoes to fill but also an offense to become the focal point. Early against the Fighting Irish, he has done a phenomenal job.
Down 3-0, Mafah took the first play of the Tigers’ second drive and went 41-yards to the house. It was a beautiful run from the bruising back, who showcased serious explosiveness during the run, giving Clemson a 7-3 lead.
This is exactly what we needed to see from Mafah, as the Clemson offense desperately needed a spark. Hopefully, that was a sign of more to come.
