PFF ranks Quenton Nelson the top guard in the NFL

PFF thinks highly of Big Q.

At this point in the offseason, it is no surprise when analysts tout Indianapolis Colts left guard Quenton Nelson as the top guard in the NFL.

We can now add Pro Football Focus to the list as they ranked Nelson at the top position among their top-25 guards in the NFL. After two All-Pro seasons, Nelson is only getting better entering 2020.

It’s hard to overstate how impressive Nelson’s career has been up to this point. Offensive linemen tend to have one of the biggest learning curves of any position from the collegiate ranks to the pros, but normal rules don’t apply to Nelson. His 90.0 PFF grade over the first two seasons of his NFL career is higher than any other guard in the league, and he ranks among the best at the position as both a pass-protector and run-blocker. His dominance paving the way for the Colts’ ground game has been particularly impressive. No guard has earned a higher positively graded run-block rate than Nelson since 2018.

Nelson has been everything the Colts could have asked for and more when they selected him at No. 6 in 2018. There isn’t much more to be said about Nelson that hasn’t already been said in his two years dominating the league.

The Colts offensive line will be the engine of the offense yet again and given the type of offseason they have had, the continuity up front will be crucial for the success of the entire unit.

And Nelson will be there to lead the Colts as arguably the best interior offensive lineman in the entire league.
