Former LSU quarterback Joe Burrow has already made a strong impression this offseason with the Cincinnati Bengals, and he’s expected to play a large role in the team’s turnaround from finishing the 2019 season with a 2-14 overall record.
With Burrow coming off arguably the best individual season we’ve seen from a college quarterback, Pro Football Focus is projecting he’ll be the second-best quarterback in the NFL by 2023.
The network predicts only Patrick Mahomes will still be above him by that point.
Here’s a look at what PFF’s Anthony Treash had to say about Burrow.

“Is Joe Burrow going to play well right away in his rookie campaign? Considering the COVID-19-impacted offseason, probably not. But regardless of how he performs out of the gate, we believe he’ll be a star in the NFL.
Burrow’s 2019 season was one of the best in the history of college football, and it was no fluke. He’s far and away the most accurate quarterback we have ever come across. He threw over 70% of his passes beyond the line of scrimmage accurately in 2019, leading the country by 4 percentage points. And that wasn’t some massive improvement from the year prior, either — in 2018, he ranked ninth among all FBS quarterbacks in the same metric.”
Burrow certainly brings all of the mental aspects to the game, with some of the fastest processing and one of the highest football IQs we’ve seen to date from a young quarterback.
He’ll get his first chance to show what he can do in an NFL game when the Bengals open the season at home against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 13.
