As the 2020 season is expected to get underway in less than a month, the race between the Indianapolis Colts and the rest of the division will soon begin, barring any COVID-19 related hurdles.
Even though the division is pretty open and up for grabs by the Titans and Texans, Pro Football Focus predicted the Colts will be the ones holding the top spot in the AFC South when the season is completed.
I think the AFC South is a three-horse race, with the Jags playing spoiler to the other teams. The Colts have been building a very solid team and felt they were a quarterback away from contending last year. If Philip Rivers can be that quarterback after just a 74.0 overall PFF grade last season, the Colts might sneak the division crown.
It will be an interesting year for the Colts and the rest of the league as they try to navigate through the pandemic. But with their continuity, depth and coaching staff, they have as good a chance as any team in the division to come out on top.
There will be some stiff competition from the Titans and the Texans, though. The Titans were one game away from the Super Bowl and will be returning most of their starters from the 2019 season. The Texans traded away DeAndre Hopkins and have some question marks on defense but with Deshaun Watson, they will still be competitive.
It will be an interesting year in the division, but the Colts are being viewed as the favorites in the eyes of Pro Football Focus.
