By now, we are all aware of the different players the Falcons could take when they are on the clock at pick No. 8, but what about potential targets on Day 2 of the 2023 NFL draft?
Obviously, it depends on the natural flow of the draft and whoever the team targets in the first round. However, if Atlanta takes a non-offensive lineman on Day 1, it’s hard to envision the team passing on one in rounds two and three.
In a new draft feature from Pro Football Focus, Michael Renner listed one potential Day 2 fit for each team. For the Falcons, PFF named North Dakota State guard Cody Mauch:
Since the team still does not have a clear long-term starter at left guard, the Falcons need to explore this area in the draft. The team is also not scared to throw in a rookie at this spot because Jalen Mayfield spent the entire 2021 season playing out of position at left guard.
So, regardless of who the Falcons draft, that player may see the field next season at some point — potentially in Week 1. Free agency is still an option, although it’s less likely after the trade for cornerback Jeff Okudah.
