PFF names Aggies starting Center Bryce Foster as breakout player

The preseason honors continue to pile up for the Aggie Center

The starting offensive line for the 2022 Texas A&M football team has the look of a strong, confident group that has the potential to be the predominant strength of the offense for an Aggies squad that is looking to consistently control the trenches. Starting  center for the team, Bryce Foster was listed by Pro Football Focus in their 2022 college football preview magazine as one of the “Breakout” players for the Aggies going into the 2022 season.

For any offensive line to sustain success throughout the always grueling regular season, the center, who is seen as the quarterback of the line needs to be highly intelligent, strong, well balanced, and highly efficient in making blocking adjustments and various line calls pre-snap.

Here was Pro Football Focus’s reasoning for including Bryce Foster:

Foster was a top-100 recruit in the 2021 class and was thrown into the fire right away, taking over as the starting center as a true freshman. He struggled with consistency in pass protection, but he was solid in the run game, finishing his first year with a 73.0 run- blocking grade, and his 83.9 run-blocking grade from Week 7 on ranked ninth among Power Five centers. Foster also won a Texas state title in shotput and recently posted the sixth-best distance in Texas A&M history. The 6-foot-5, 325-pounder isn’t just a phone-booth power player either — he has exceptional movement skills for a man his size. His footwork and leverage improved as last year went on, but the biggest area of improvement is his blitz and stunt recognition, which should come with more reps.

Coming out of Taylor High School in Katy, Texas, Foster was a 4-Star recruit in the 2021 class who played multiple positions on the offensive line for most of his prep career, and earned the starting center position during fall camp before the 2021 season began. With the immense success he experienced during his freshman campaign, the expectations for Foster to become one of the more dominant starting offensive linemen in the country in his second season is no surprise.
