The Tennessee Titans offense just hasn’t been the same since Ryan Tannehill took over at quarterback in the midst of Week 6’s loss to the Denver Broncos.
And that’s for the better.
His consistently strong performances are part of the reason why he was on the list when Pro Football Focus released its NFL Week 16 Team of the Week.
“Despite the loss to the New Orleans Saints, Tannehill continued his tremendous season throwing the football, as he finished with three big-time throws and no turnover-worthy plays,” the report read. “He was pinpoint on a deep ball to wideout A.J. Brown, and his tight-window red-zone touchdown kept the Titans in the game in the fourth quarter. Tannehill’s downfield accuracy was excellent once again, and he finished 7-for-10 for 151 yards and two touchdowns on throws of 10-plus yards downfield.”
Tannehill shined in the Titans’ 38-28 loss to the visiting New Orleans Saints last week, completing 17-of-27 passes for 272 yards and three touchdowns.
He posted a PFF grade of 91.2, the highest of any player at the position in Week 16.
Tannehill also currently leads the NFL in passer rating (116.5).
Once considered nothing more than a mere insurance policy for former starting quarterback Marcus Mariota, Tannehill is in the middle of what could go down as the best season of his NFL career and is making a strong case to be the signal-caller of the future for a team that was once considered to be in the running for a first-round quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft.
The Titans will look for Tannehill to stay hot as they face the Houston Texans at 3:25 p.m. CST on Sunday in NRG Stadium.
