Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger has plenty to prove.
If you’ve witnessed his relentless spirit, you can only assume that he feels the same way. After all, he hasn’t won a Big 12 Championship and/or appeared in the College Football Playoff.
However, Ehlinger is the heartbeat of Texas’ offense and is the reason behind their recent successes. Regardless of how you define the word success in terms of the Texas football program, Ehlinger has been the key player that has kept them afloat the past few years.
To put it simply — he can do it all.
Although his individual statistics seemingly go unnoticed, the numbers speak for themselves. Ehlinger is the active FBS leader in total yards, passing yards, total touchdowns and passing touchdowns.
That should be enough to at least be considered worthy of the Heisman trophy, right? Not quite. PFF did not list Ehlinger in their latest Heisman watch list ahead of Week 4.

Just two short weeks ago, ESPN listed Ehlinger as one of their top three Heisman contenders. According to PFF, he’s not even worthy of a top 10 consideration.
Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields, D’Eriq King, Spencer Rattler and Dillon Gabriel are PFF’s favorites to take home this prestigious award. Oklahoma’s Spencer Rattler is coming off of a shocking loss to Kansas State where he threw three interceptions.
Ehlinger had a record-setting first half of play against UTEP in the season opener, then followed that up with a thriller 15-point comeback at Texas Tech. Although it wasn’t an attractive win by any means, he was able to get the job done when it mattered.
