PFF believes Tom Brady is Colts’ must-add free agent

PFF sees Tom Brady as the must-add free agent for Indy.

There is a big offseason ahead for the Indianapolis Colts, especially when it comes to the decision at quarterback. One name that has floated around plenty is New England Patriots signal-caller Tom Brady.

With Jacoby Brissett struggling for the majority of the 2019 season, it is likely the Colts address the quarterback position soon. How they do that remains a mystery, but Pro Football Focus believes Brady is the free agent the Colts should pursue this offseason.

There’s probably no state with a bigger hatred for the Patriots and Tom Brady than Indiana, but if they want to be a Super Bowl contender, they’ll have to set their differences aside and let Brady lead their team. Jacoby Brissett finished 2019 as the fourth lowest-graded quarterback in the NFL and looks like he might be a backup as opposed to a starter. While this was Brady’s lowest-graded season since 2006, it was still good enough to be 12th among quarterbacks. He’s been one of the most valuable quarterbacks these past few years, and pairing him with T.Y. Hilton and perhaps a new talent accrued through the draft or free agency would give Indianapolis a shot at contending for the next couple of seasons.

It is highly unlikely the Colts bring in Brady. That is assuming he doesn’t stay with the Patriots. Even with the struggles of Brissett, it doesn’t seem like a move general manager Chris Ballard would make, especially seeing as the rebuild is still going on.

Brady endured one of his worst seasons averaging just 6.6 yards per attempt in 2019. The Patriots offense wasn’t very good during the season, and Brady’s decline, while not major, did begin to show.

The cost alone will keep the Colts out of the running for Brady if he does hit the market. Already paying Brissett as a top-10 quarterback, it wouldn’t make sense for the Colts to do the same for Brady.

There are many ways the Colts can go about improving the quarterback room, but it doesn’t seem likely that Brady is a part of those solutions.
