PFF believes Bears WR Allen Robinson is a lock for 1,000-yard season in 2020

PFF believes Allen Robinson is a lock for a second straight 1,000-yard season in 2020. And it’s easy to see why.

The Chicago Bears’ offense was downright ugly at times last season. But receiver Allen Robinson wasn’t one of the reasons why. He was one of the lone bright spots, and what he accomplished despite the circumstances around him was nothing short of astonishing.

Robinson had a career-best 98 receptions for 1,147 yards and seven touchdowns with questionable quarterback play and one of the league’s worst offenses. He was the Bears’ first 1,000-yard receiver since 2014.

Pro Football Focus believes Robinson is a lock for a second straight 1,000-yard season in 2020. And given what he accomplished last year in one of the NFL’s worst offenses, it’s easy to see why.

Only three WRs had more than 80 targets in Weeks 9-17 last season: Thomas (93), Adams (89) and Robinson (88). Robinson is a target monster for the Bears, and that kind of volume should be an automatic 1,000 yards. He has overcome shoddy quarterback play his entire career — it’s hard to believe that Nick Foles could be the best quarterback Robinson has ever played with. Robinson is a contested catch artist, racking up 40 since 2018 (third-most behind Julio and Golladay).

Robinson is entering the final year of his three-year, $42 million extension with the Bears. Re-signing Robinson should be a priority for general manager Ryan Pace, but Robinson told ESPN 1000 that there haven’t been any discussions about an extension.

“They haven’t. We haven’t heard nothing,” Robinson said, via NBC Sports Chicago. “I think just as far as me and my agent, from a the conversations that we’ve had, we’re not necessarily anticipating hearing anything at this point. For us, we’re going into camp preparing ourselves to have a good year. If that comes up and they reach out to my agent, I’m sure they’ll have pretty good discussions and things like that, but again, that hasn’t happened yet. Maybe it will happen. I can’t predict the future, so I don’t know if that will happen at all.”

General manager Ryan Pace is known for his pre-season extensions, which is certainly something to keep an eye on. And given that Robinson accounts for more than half of Chicago’s passing game, it should be a no-brainer to bring him back. Especially when Robinson has made it clear that he wants to remain in Chicago for the foreseeable future.
