Big Tuesday for Peyton Manning. The great quarterback was named as a Pro Football Hall of Fame semifinalist — he is a mortal lock to get in — and then it was revealed he will be the host of a reboot of the game show “College Bowl.”
“I’ve always loved intense college competition, so I’m thrilled to be part of the team bringing back College Bowl,” said Manning, who has endowed 45 scholarships via his PeyBack Foundation. “Having personally seen the profound impact scholarships can make on deserving students, I can’t wait for the moment when we get to award life-changing scholarships to the winning team.”
“College Bowl” is not a football game.
What it is, is a show that featured two four-member teams representing various colleges competing in a series of question rounds. The series originally aired on radio stations in 1953 before moving to CBS between 1959-63 and NBC between 1963-70.
NBC has authorized a 10-episode order for a revival of the quiz show. A premiere date has not yet been determined.
