Peyton Manning and Tiger Woods win charity golf event

Capital One’s The Match: Champions for Charity

HOBE SOUND — It took a late effort from Tiger Woods, but he and former University of Tennessee and two-time Super Bowl champion Peyton Manning defeated Tom Brady and Phil Mickelson 1-up in Sunday’s The Match: Champions for Charity.

The weather was soggy and the golf was sometimes a bit shaky, but some of the trash talk and in-match commentary from four of America’s best athletes was priceless.

Brady took a shot at Manning for having a Tennessee mascot, Smoky, as his club cover.

Brady, however, was inaccurate with his trash talk. He told Manning “they (Tennessee) haven’t been any good since you left.”

The Vols won the BCS national championship one year after Manning left UT. Tee Martin quarterbacked Tennessee to the championship.

In the end, the foursome came together to raise $20 million for COVID-19 relief and gave golf fans a live event to watch while the sport remains on hiatus due to the pandemic. It also gave sports fans a chance to see some of the world’s best athletes loosen up and have a little fun.
