It’s possible — and maybe even likely — that Bill Belichick will not get a shot to select one of the top five quarterbacks in the 2021 NFL draft.
Quarterbacks Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Justin Fields, Trey Lance and Mac Jones could all go before the Patriots pick at 15th overall. And even if they don’t, New England may not rate a quarterback who slips as worth of a selection at No. 15. So Belichick could look beyond the first round for help at quarterback, where Cam Newton and Jarrett Stidham are slated for another quarterback competition in 2021.
NFL columnist Peter King tossed out the name of a prospect who might be a good fit.
“As we learned from the un-Belichickian spending spree in free agency, Belichick will do what is best for his franchise in a given year,” King wrote in his latest Football Morning in America column for NBC Sports. “Now, if they don’t pick a passer in round one, Florida’s Kyle Trask at 46 or 96 (their picks in rounds two and three) wouldn’t surprise me.”
