Peter King throws cold water on the Lions’ Chase Young hopes

NBC’s Peter King believes Chase Young to Washington at No. 2 is a lock, meaning the Detroit Lions at 3 will not get a shot at Young

The latest update of Peter King’s always-informative Football Morning in America at NBC Sports is a real downer for Detroit Lions fans clinging to hope that the Lions can land Ohio State defensive end Chase Young at No. 3 overall. Just 10 days out from the 2020 NFL Draft, King reports it’s all but a done deal that Young will be off the board.

King goes through the scenarios for all the teams in the draft and offers what he’s seen and heard from various anonymous sources. Washington’s section at No. 2 is starkly brief. After devoting several paragraphs to the Bengals and Joe Burrow at No. 1, this is all there is to the Redskins commentary at No. 2,

2. WASHINGTON. No one in my sphere thinks Ron Rivera will do anything but log on to the NFL’s secure Microsoft Teams draft channel when Washington is on the clock and enter Chase Young, Ohio State.

King’s report echoes the growing sentiment that Washington will stand pat at No. 2 and select Young, the unquestioned top pass rusher and best overall defensive prospect in the draft.

That leaves Young’s Buckeye teammate, Jeff Okudah, for the Lions at No. 3. That’s the first name King connects with the Lions, too:

Defensive player or trade down. Lions would love to find a partner to supply them with a fifth pick in the top 90 of a top-heavy draft. Ohio State cornerback Jeff Okudah or Auburn defensive tackle Derrick Brown would be Matt Patricia types.

That take goes in hand with what we here at Lions Wire have been reporting. Okudah or a trade from No. 3 — and still landing Okudah — are the most likely draft scenario for the Lions when the first round happens in 10 days.
