Fans will be hard-pressed to find an analyst who believes the Jacksonville Jaguars will have a good season as they lost a lot of veteran leadership due to having to reallocate money. Right now, our partners at BetMGM predicts they will win just five games, which is actually more than others who believes the team will be drafting first overall.

We can now add NBC Sport’s Peter King on the list of those who believes the latter as he’s not high on the Jags. In his latest power rankings, he slotted them dead last in the league as they’ve been on the decline since almost going  to the Super Bowl in 2017.

32. Jacksonville (6-10)

I’m sure if Vegas has such a toteboard, it’d list Doug Marrone with the best odds of any NFL coach to be fired this season. It’s hard to blame him for the mass exodus of good players (Ramsey, Campbell, Bouye, Dareus, Foles) from the Jags. Still, Jacksonville is 11-22 since the day of the blown 10-point fourth-quarter lead in the 2017 AFC Championship Game at Foxboro, and at some point soon, the coach has to pull his team out of that to keep being the coach.

Marrone will need a good season from starter Gardner Minshew and a new coordinator (Jay Gruden) and QB coach (Ben McAdoo) for this team to have any chance to survive. There’s a good young nucleus on defense—pass-rushers Josh Allen and K’Lavon Chaisson, linebacker Myles Jack and cornerback C.J. Henderson, though it’s hard to predict that two rookies will hit the ground running the way Allen did as a rookie last year. I wonder which lucky GM and coach will get handed Trevor Lawrence if the Jags are truly awful this year.

Such a season would mean that both coach Doug Marrone and general manager Dave Caldwell would be fired. That certainly would be justified (especially for Caldwell) as the Jags have just one winning season under the veteran general manager, who has been in the front office since 2013.

To turn their fortunes, the biggest key will be quarterback Gardner Minshew II, who was able to scrape up six wins despite being thrown into the fire early in his career. In the process of participating in 12 games, he was able to finish last season 285-of-470 (60.6%) for 3,271 yards, and 21 touchdowns. That was good enough to garner him the best grade of any rookie quarterback via Pro Football Focus (70.3) and persuade the Jags to give him a shot as a full-time starter in 2020.
