Pete Carroll praises ‘brilliant mind’ of new Bucs OC Dave Canales

After spending the last 14 years on his staff, Dave Canales is getting high praise from Pete Carroll as he heads off to Tampa Bay

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will introduce new offensive coordinator Dave Canales to the media at a press conference Wednesday afternoon, where Bucs fans will get to hear directly from their new play-caller about how he’ll approach things on that side of the ball this season.

But we’re already learning plenty about Canales from those who have worked with him over the years, and the latest to sing his praises is Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll.

Canales has worked under Carroll in Seattle since 2010, spending his entire NFL career as an assistant in various roles on Carroll’s staff. The pair also coached together at USC before making the leap to the next level.

Carroll had plenty of praise for Canales as he heads off to his first offensive coordinator job (via Fox Sports’ Greg Auman):

That’s music to the ears of Bucs fans after a 2022 season that saw the offense struggle mightily all year long, averaging just 18 points per game, and ranking dead last in the NFL in rushing.
