Penn State has developed quite a trend of developing some of the best tight ends in the game. Tyler Warren is the latest example of that as he is putting together an impressive season that is seeing his NFL draft stock rise every week. Warren will leave some big shoes to fill when he moves on, but it is looking like he may not be the only tight end in need of being replaced on the roster next season.
With the NCAA Transfer Portal scheduled to open up next week (Dec. 9) and run through the end of the month (Dec. 28), it is being reported that Penn State tight end [autotag]Jerry Cross[/autotag] is planning his intent to enter the transfer portal once it opens up. the news of Cross’ plan to enter the transfer portal was first reported by Pete Nakos of On3, citing an update from Cross’ agent.
Cross has appeared in three games this season and made appearances in just four games during the 2023 season. He will have two years of eligibility remaining with his new school, wherever that may be.
Cross was a four-star recruit in Penn State’s Class of 2022, and he enrolled early in 2022 to get a jump on his college development. Injuries got in the way the past couple of seasons, however, and Cross eventually got passed over by some other options at the tight end position as a result.
Cross committed to Penn State over offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, and Purdue among others.
A player may enter his name in the NCAA Transfer Portal database to allow them to have any contact with any other college football program looking to recruit him. A player may withdraw his name from the NCAA database at any time, but the current school is not required to protect any scholarship once that player enters the database.
The NCAA transfer portal will be open from Dec. 9 through Dec. 28 and then again from April 16, 2025 through April 25, 2025.
