Penn State picks up a point in men’s basketball AP Top 25 poll

Yes, it’s true. One AP Top 25 voter had Penn State men’s basketball on his ballot this week.

After jumping out to a 2-0 start to the season behind some brilliant three-point shooting and solid defense, the Penn State Nittany Lions have entered the AP Top 25 for the first time this season. Well, technically.

The Nittany Lions are not in the top 25 from the Associated Press voters, yet, but they did manage to receive one single point in this week’s updated AP Top 25 early in the men’s college basketball season.

The single point in the poll’s weekly voting came from Dylan Sinn of The Journal Gazette in Fort Wayne, Indiana, according to College Poll Tracker. Sinn has Penn State as his No. 25 team on his weekly ballot. Sinn’s ranking is reportedly five spots higher than any other AP voter had Penn State in this week’s ballots.

Penn State is the 46th and final team to receive any votes this week. Sinn has a handful of Big Ten teams in his poll this week with Indiana, Purdue, Iowa, Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State all on his ballot. Of those teams, in addition to Penn State, Big Ten teams not appearing in the AP top 25 this week include Ohio State, Iowa, and Purdue.

As for the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, Penn State still has some work to do to appear on any single ballot. We’ll see if the Nittany Lions can crack the ballots next week.
