Penn State moves up slightly in USA TODAY’s updated 1-134 power rankings after Week 2

Penn State up two places in latest USA TODAY 1-134 power rankings

Despite struggling to a victory over Bowling Green last Saturday, the Penn State Nittany Lions are slowly moving up in the latest national polls. They rank No. 7 in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll, while PSU’s place in the AP Poll remains the same at No. 8.

According to national outlets, Penn State remains a perennial top-10 team, and that continued this week with USA TODAY’s Paul Myerberg updating his 1-134 rankings of all FBS programs.

When Myerberg previously did this exercise in mid-August, the Nittany Lions ranked just inside his top 10 at no. 9. Now, entering week three of the football season, Penn State inched up to no. 7 in his rankings. PSU is now ranked above Big Ten foe Oregon, which has played two tight games so far this season. Notre Dame and LSU are two other programs that are now also ranked below Penn State.

Tennessee and Mississippi are the only teams to jump ahead of the Nittany Lions after the Volunteers and Rebels started the season with two impressive victories.

Penn State is ranked as the second-best Big Ten squad in these latest USA TODAY power rankings, and that is an accurate assessment. The Nittany Lions are off this week before hosting Kent State on Saturday, September 21.
