Penn State moves into USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll

The USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll saw a bunch of changes after an eventful weekend. Here is where Penn State is ranked.

Following a wild weekend of college football and after improving to 2-0, Penn State is once again a ranked college football program. The USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll was updated Sunday afternoon and Penn State made its 2022 debut in the poll at No. 23.

Penn State benefitted in part to a number of ranked teams taking a loss in Week 2. Notre Dame and Wisconsin each fell out of the coaches poll after suffering home losses to unranked opponents. Penn State also moved ahead of Pittsburgh, with the Panthers tumbling 11 spots to No. 25 after their overtime loss to Tennessee.

Alabama remains on top of the coaches poll this week, although the gap in first-place votes was cut significantly after a close call at Texas on Saturday. Alabama received3 9 first-place votes while Georgia made up ground at No. 2 with 25 first-place votes. No. 3 Ohio State received one first-place vote.

No. 5 Michigan and No. 9 Michigan State are the only other Big Ten teams in the Coaches Poll this week. Texas A&M took the biggest drop within the top 25 by falling from No. 6 down to No. 22 after a home loss to Appalachian State. Notre Dame fell out of the top 25 from No. 8 after a home loss to Marshall. The Irish, now 0-2, are eighth in the others receiving votes category.
