So much for the thought of Penn State potentially adding an All-Big 12 safety to its defense through the transfer portal. On Sunday, former West Virginia safety Tykee Smith announced his transfer decision, and he will not be packing his bags for Happy Valley.
Smith announced on his Twitter account he will be joining the Georgia Bulldogs of the SEC. Georgia’s official account made the official welcome with its own tweet.

It was fun to think about while it lasted. Despite some early rumblings Penn State may be an early contender for Smith’s transfer, there wasn’t a whole lot out there to suggest Penn State was hot in the hunt. Assistant coaches flocked to follow him on Twitter, but perhaps originally being ignored by Penn State out of high school left some uphill sledding for Penn State’s staff the second time around.
Penn State will now hope to come out of the spring feeling good enough with what they have in the secondary.
