Penn State kicker Jordan Stout adds another weekly Big Ten honor

Stop us if you have heard this before, but Jordan Stout was named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week.

It’s beginning to be a routine development for Penn State special teams specialist Jordan Stout, it would seem. For the fourth time this season, Stout was named the Big Ten’s special teams player of the week, this time following his incredible punting display against Rutgers in Week 12.

Stout provided a reliable leg in a game that started off as a battle fo field position between the Nittany Lions and Rutgers, with both teams getting terrific efforts from their respective punters (Adam Korsak of Rutgers got plenty of work). Stout ensured Penn State would win the battle of field position by knocking five punts inside the Rutgers 10-yard line and having six of eight punts downed inside the Rutgers 20-yard line before the offense took some of the pressure off of Stout’s punting abilities in the second half with three touchdown drives. Stout launched two of his punts over 50 yards as well.

Stout has been one of the top punters in the nation, and that has led to him being named a semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award, which was announced two weeks ago.

The Ray Guy Award named Stout their Week 8 punter of the week earlier this season.

Stout also connected on all four extra-point attempts he was called on for as the team’s placekicker.
