Penn State was tripped up at home in frustrating fashion against the Michigan Wolverines. As a result, the Nittany Lions have fallen out of the top 10 in this week’s updated AP Top 25 poll, which was released on Sunday afternoon.
Penn State dropped three spots from no. 9 to no. 12 in this week’s AP Top 25. Penn State saw a similar drop in the US LBM Coaches Poll, which was released earlier on Sunday. Penn State was passed by no. 9 Louisville, no. 10 Oregon State, and no. 11 Missouri. Both Oregon State and Missouri have similar 8-2 records as Penn State. The Nittany Lions did stay one spot ahead of no. 13 Ole Miss, which also stumbled out of the top 10 this week following a blowout loss at no. 1 Georgia.
Georgia continues to hold a firm grip on the top spot in the media poll, as they have all season. The two-time defending national champions received 54 first-place votes in this week’s AP poll. They are followed by the top two teams in the Big Ten, no. 2 Michigan (7 first-place votes) and Ohio State (1 first-place vote). Florida State (no. 4), Washington (no. 5), Oregon (no. 6), Texas (no. 7), and Alabama (no. 8) held their ranking from the previous week to fill the rest of the top 10.
Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State are the only ranked teams in the AP Top 25. Iowa is the top team among the others receiving votes and is 22 points behind no. 25 Liberty for the final spot in this week’s AP poll.
Penn State will look for a rebound win this week with a home game against Rutgers. The Nittany Lions and Scarlet Knights are set for a 12:00 p.m. ET kickoff on FS1 on Saturday, Nov. 18.
