Penn State extends offer to 2024 JUCO cornerback

Penn State extends offer to rising JUCO cornerback recruit in 2024

After losing a starting cornerback to the NFL in 2023, the Nittany Lions could once again be set to lose a top defensive back to the NFL in 2024. Kalen King returns this season for his third season with the program, but his NFL draft stock is continuing to rise as he is viewed as one of the best cornerbacks in the nation going into the 2023 season. And perhaps because of that, James Franklin and his staff are looking ahead to find ways to pad the depth at the position next year with an offer to a JUCO cornerback in 2024.

Sione Laulea is a JUCO cornerback drawing plenty of attention from around the country. The California JUCO cornerback, at 6′-4″ and 185 lb, currently holds offers from BYU, Florida State, Miami, USC, Utah, Oregon, and more. Now, Penn State is on that offer list for Laulea. Laulea announced his offer from the Nittany Lions on his Twitter account on Tuesday night.

Penn State has made a good effort to pad the cornerback position already in the Class of 2024. Penn State currently has verbal commitments from four-star recruits Kenneth Woseley and Jon Mitchell, and three-star Antoine Belgrave-Shorter.

Laulea had 15 tackles and one interception as a freshman for College of San Mateo last season with appearances in 10 games as San Mateo cruised its way to a California Community College Athletic Association football championship, capped by a 55-0 victory over top-ranked Riverside City College.
