DETROIT — With the Philadelphia 76ers so short-handed on Sunday when they took on the Detroit Pistons, others had an opportunity to step in and earn playing time.
Paul Reed is the biggest example of somebody taking advantage of the opportunity. With Montrezl Harrell starting, the Sixers needed Reed to be the backup center, and he produced a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds in a 123-111 win over the Pistons.
Reed was active all day, and he even executed the two-man game with James Harden to perfection. While Harrell and Harden set the tone, Reed entered and kept the momentum going.
“It’s getting better for sure,” said Reed. “I think it could have been better, but I feel like we was able to figure out what worked for us and that’s a help.”
Reed is a guy who plays with so much energy that sometimes it looks like he’s out of control. The biggest thing with him is understanding where to be on his rolls off the screen and understanding where Harden wants him to be when he’s looking to make plays.
Therefore, conversations are continuing between Reed and Harden in order to have success on the offensive end.
“We have conversations a lot,” said Reed. “We still need more conversations just so we can have even better chemistry out there.”
