FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Philadelphia 76ers coach Nick Nurse is pushing guys to play outside their comfort zone a bit. He wants players to be doing more on the floor than they have in the past and that includes young Paul Reed.
The big man out of DePaul has been working all summer on his shooting and his overall offensive game. He has been working with Nurse all summer on his shooting form in an effort to make him more of a threat on the offensive end.
While Reed’s game is more about rolling to the rim and making tougher layups, the idea now is for him to knock down some open looks from deep.
“It’s coming along,” Reed said of his shooting. “For me, it’s about putting myself in positions to take more 3s. I feel like I be crashing the glass so much and rolling so much, I get most of my buckets doing that, but when I get that opportunity, I’m definitely going to let it ride whenever so I’m overly confident so I’m ready.”
Along with his progressive offensive skill set, Reed believes he is the perfect guy for Nurse’s system on defense. He has an innate ability to be in the right spot at the right time and he understands what it takes to succeed on that end of the floor which will work nicely for Nurse and his staff.
“I’m already the type of defensive player that he’s used to coaching so for me, it’s an easy transition,” Reed added. “I can see myself just fitting right in and being super effective and productive out there on the defensive end this upcoming season.”
