Paul Finebaum questions whether Kevin Steele helped Gus Malzahn get fired

SEC Network host Paul Finebaum is questioning whether Kevin Steele had a role in helping Gus Malzahn get fired.

Kevin Steele has become the leader to be named the new Auburn head football coach and, if you listen to Paul Finebaum, he may have had a role in helping Gus Malzahn be ushered out the door.

“I’m sure some will suspect if he ends up being introduced in a couple days that maybe he did or did not help lead to Gus Malzahn’s overthrow,” the SEC Network host said.

Whether or not that is true will probably never be figured out but it seems that Steele has won the support of the men who matter the most: the major boosters who pay the money.

“I say this after literally spending the majority of my life in Alabama and covering Auburn all the time: It’s Auburn,” Finebaum said. “That’s how they do things down there. There’s a small band of brothers who run the athletic department, and none of them go by the name of Allen Greene, who is the de facto AD. They like Kevin Steele. He’s one of them. He knows how to relate to them.”

If Steele were to get the job, it would be at the dissatisfaction of the majority of the Auburn fan base who have already started a “#StopSteele” hashtag on Twitter that started trending on Wednesday.

Given the chance to be a head coach once before, Steele went 9-36 at Baylor.
